31-year-old Suitland Man Killed By Officer Mourned By Loved Ones

Jamiesfeast – Melvin Jay of Suitland tragically lost his life in an incident involving Officer Braxton Shelton. The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) revealed this unfortunate news on Monday, February 5th. Officer Shelton, who boasts four years of experience in law enforcement, was involved in the incident.

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1, officers on patrol received a call regarding a breaking and entering situation in the 5100 block of Suitland Road. This ultimately resulted in a tragic incident.

According to the Attorney General’s office, Shelton issued commands to the man before proceeding to open fire.

The investigators temporarily closed the front entrance to the apartment complex and provided residents with specific instructions to steer clear of the crime scene.

The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division is currently investigating the fatal shooting.

The community has been expressing their support and anger following his death, demanding justice for Jay and his family. Many people believe that the shooting was unjustified.
