Marilyn Mosby Convicted Of Mortgage Fraud, Acquitted Of Other In Baltimore, Feds Say

Jamiesfeast – Following hours of deliberation, a jury announced on Tuesday afternoon that the 44-year-old politician has been convicted and is now facing prison time. The trial, which was well-documented and lengthy, has finally come to an end for her.

In February 2021, prosecutors presented evidence during the trial that revealed Mosby’s false statement in an application for a $428,400 mortgage. The purpose of the mortgage was to purchase a condominium in Long Boat Key, Florida.

Mosby falsely claimed in her application that she had received a $5,000 gift from her husband to put towards the purchase of the property.

According to the evidence, Mosby made this statement to secure a lower interest rate. However, she actually transferred him the cash, which he later returned to her as a “gift.”

In addition, Mosby was also acquitted of the charge of making a false mortgage application for a second home in Kissimmee, Florida.

Mosby was convicted of perjury in November last year for her involvement in withdrawing funds from the City of Baltimore’s Deferred Compensation Plan. She claimed to have suffered financial difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic while serving as Baltimore City State’s Attorney.

She could potentially receive a five-year sentence for each count of perjury, leading to a total of ten years in federal prison.

“We deeply respect the court’s thoughtful decisions, the passionate advocacy of opposing counsel, and the wisdom of the jury’s verdicts in this case. Our unwavering commitment is to uphold the rule of law,” expressed US Attorney Erek Barron.

Mosby could potentially be sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for his involvement in a false mortgage application. However, it is important to note that no sentencing date has been scheduled for either of the cases.
