9 Disposal Wells To Close Following 5.1 Magnitude Earthquake

Jamiesfeast – The recent series of earthquakes in Oklahoma has prompted the state to take immediate action. The largest earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.1, occurred near Prague on Friday night. In response, authorities have issued orders to shut down disposal wells in the vicinity of the epicenter.

Stacia Stanberry, who resides just two miles from the epicenter, shared her experience of the earthquake. She mentioned that her son was in bed when it started shaking, causing the bed to move along with him. Surprisingly, her daughter slept through the whole event without being disturbed.

Stacia Stanberry’s home was thrown into chaos by the earthquake that struck on Friday night.

Stanberry described the unfortunate incident where some of their canned goods and antique butter dishes fell and were crushed on the floor.

Her refrigerator shifted approximately four inches away from the wall.

Kathy Bryan, who was watching TV at the time, could feel the ground shaking from miles away.

“It scared the living daylights out of me. Even my dog got terrified and started barking. If I could have barked, I would have too,” exclaimed Bryan.

According to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, there appears to be a probable cause for all the shaking.

Trey Davis, from the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, expressed his confidence in the potential connection between disposal wells in the Arbuckle region.

There are still nine operations that remain active in parts of Lincoln County, Pottawatomie County, and Seminole County, near the epicenter, according to OCC.

According to Davis, it cannot be confirmed whether they played a role in causing the earthquake. However, the focus is on assessing the risk and taking measures to minimize the chances of such incidents occurring.

Over the next two weeks, those wells will gradually shut down.

According to Davis, the goal is to avoid sudden changes in pressure to prevent the possibility of triggering another earthquake.

Corporation Commission Officials have stated that they will take further action as necessary if there are additional earthquakes.

We also reached out to OCC regarding the earthquakes in Edmond a few weeks ago.

Davis stated that they had gone through a similar process a few weeks ago when the earthquake struck Edmond. However, they did not find any evidence indicating a connection to the earthquake.

According to the Commission, the wells near Prague are currently active and operating at a reduced volume, in contrast to the wells near Edmond.

As a precautionary measure, the authorities have decided to shut down the wells in Prague.

According to the state seismologist, there is a possibility of experiencing strong aftershocks in the weeks ahead.
