Jamiesfeast – The Indianapolis Colts have filled a coaching position that has been vacant since 2020.
ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler reported on Tuesday night that the Colts have made the decision to hire former Eagles QB coach Alex Tanney.
According to James Boyd, The Athletic’s Colts reporter, the Colts have brought in Tanney to serve as their pass game coordinator.
Alex Tanney’s History in the NFL
Tanney embarked on his NFL coaching journey in 2021 when he joined the Philadelphia Eagles as an offensive assistant. Since then, he has made rapid strides in his coaching career. In 2022, he earned a promotion to assistant quarterback coach, and the following year, in 2023, he assumed the role of the team’s quarterback coach.
Tanney spent his initial two seasons with the Eagles under the guidance of Colts head coach Shane Steichen, who served as his offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2022. In a reunion of sorts, Tanney will now join Steichen in Indianapolis as the team’s pass game coordinator. This role is significant for the Colts as they haven’t had someone in this position on their staff since 2020.
Before becoming a coach, Tanney had already made a name for himself in the NFL. He had stints on the active roster with the Tennessee Titans in 2015 and the New York Giants in 2019. Additionally, he spent time on the practice squad with six other NFL teams, including the Colts in 2015. Tanney decided to retire from the NFL in 2021 and transitioned into coaching, joining the Eagles in the same year.
