First arrests under DNA database collection law made by Florida sheriff’s office

Jamiesfeast – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has reported that the Collier County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa, Florida, has become the first law enforcement agency in the state to make arrests using a DNA database collection law that was implemented in July.

According to the FDLE, the newly implemented law mandates that law enforcement collect DNA samples from individuals who are booked into a Florida jail on an immigration detainer.

Officials have announced that two DNA samples in Collier County have been found to be a match in sexual battery cold cases.

The FDLE stated that the labs in Fort Myers and Tampa analyzed the DNA samples, resulting in a successful match.

Both men were arrested and transported to the Collier County Jail.
