Jamiesfeast – State Senator Mike Stuart, who is also running for the position of West Virginia Attorney General, has put forward a bill that aims to empower the West Virginia Secretary of Homeland Security to extend direct assistance to Texas Governor Abbott and the Texas Border Patrol. This assistance would cover expenses for items such as razor wire and other materials required to enhance border security.
According to Stuart, the open border policies implemented by President Biden have proven to be a failure for both America and the people of West Virginia. He emphasizes that this is not solely a problem for Texas, but rather a concern that directly impacts West Virginia as well. Stuart believes it is crucial for West Virginia to show solidarity with Texas and Governor Abbott, as they should not be left to handle the defense of the nation on their own.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and U.S. Border Patrol agents came across 176,294 migrants in January, which is significantly lower compared to the staggering 302,034 encountered in December. This December figure was an unprecedented record high for a single month, according to data from CBP. In January of last year, there were 157,358 encounters with migrants at the Southwest border. Since October 1, 2023, border authorities have encountered close to 1 million illegal entries at the southern border.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on Sunday his plans to extend the razor wire fencing that has been installed along the border. This decision comes shortly after the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Biden administration, allowing them to remove the existing fencing. Governor Abbott is determined to reinforce the border security measures despite the legal setback.
According to Stuart, President Biden has neglected his constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the nation by failing to secure the southern border. In order to enhance border security, Stuart believes that the Secretary of West Virginia’s Department of Homeland Security should be granted the authority to collaborate directly with officials in Texas and offer substantial assistance.
Senator Stuart emphasized the need for West Virginia’s Secretary of Homeland Security to have the power and resources to provide essential items like razor wire in abundance. He highlighted the importance of concrete, sand, security cameras, rebar, and steel mesh to fortify the border. The senator expressed solidarity with Texas, stating that both states firmly stand together in defending their respective borders.
Stuart not only introduced a bill to support Texas border security, but he is also the primary sponsor of a Resolution that supports Governor Abbott and Texas’ authority to protect the border. The State Senate is expected to discuss and potentially vote on this resolution in the coming week.
Stuart, who has extensive experience in law enforcement and has witnessed the devastating effects of the opioid crisis firsthand, believes that urgent action is needed to address this issue. He has spent years on the front lines, supporting law enforcement, leading raids, and prosecuting those who peddle poison. Throughout his career, he has seen the profound grief experienced by parents who have lost their children to addiction. Stuart emphasizes the importance of tackling the problem at its source, specifically at the Texas border. He advocates for providing Texas with the necessary resources and support to close the border and prevent the flow of illegal drugs into the country.
