The Disney star-turned-pop phenomenon entered Sunday night’s Grammy Awards with six nominations for the 2024 awards program. Prior to it, she had only been nominated twice in her career, losing both times.
On Sunday, luck finally smiled upon her as she clinched the first award of the night for Best Pop Solo Performance. The coveted prize was rightfully earned for her widely acclaimed breakup anthem “Flowers.”
As soon as Mariah Carey called out her name, Cyrus enthusiastically took the stage, accompanied by her mother, Tish Cyrus, who cheered loudly and proudly. Cyrus couldn’t contain her excitement, remarking how iconic the moment was to receive the award from Carey. In a playful tone, she even joked about the “two MCs” standing together on stage.
Cyrus’ hit song “Flowers” dominated the music charts in 2023, holding the No. 1 spot for an impressive eight weeks. This single, which pays homage to Bruno Mars, breathed new life into Cyrus’ career following the lukewarm performance of her previous albums. It’s worth noting that “Flowers” continues to remain popular even a year after its release, as it continues to chart.
Cyrus’s song “Flowers” has garnered significant recognition, earning her six Grammy nominations this year. The nominations include prestigious categories such as Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year for her latest album, “Endless Summer Vacation.” This marks a notable achievement for Cyrus, as her previous album “Bangerz” was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2015. Additionally, her collaboration with Lil Nas X on the album “Montero” also received a nomination for Album of the Year in 2022.
It is interesting to note that several of Cyrus’ fellow Disney stars, such as Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and the Jonas Brothers, have been nominated for multiple Grammys but have yet to win. However, it appears that Cyrus may have just broken that curse. Without a doubt, she has truly earned the recognition she deserves.
