Jamiesfeast – Hundreds of individuals from various locations, including Colorado and El Paso, gathered for the first-ever memorial run on Sunday, February 4th, to pay tribute to the late New Mexico State Police Officer Darian Jarrott. This event marked the third anniversary of Officer Jarrott’s tragic demise while serving on the job.
The run and walk kicked off at Las Cruces City Hall at 10 a.m., taking participants on a three-loop journey around Downtown Las Cruces. The route covered a distance of 3.30 miles as a tribute to Jarrott’s call sign, which was 330. The event concluded at the Plaza de Las Cruces.
The crowd consisted of a mix of individuals, including family members, friends, and various law enforcement officers. Notably, representatives from Las Cruces and New Mexico State Police, as well as the U.S. Border Patrol, were present. Some officers were dressed in their official uniforms, while others blended in with the multitude of people wearing T-shirts that paid tribute to Jarrott and law enforcement. This heartwarming display left a lasting impression on his family and served as a testament to his enduring legacy.
Jarrott’s mother, Gloria Jarrott, expressed her gratitude and admiration for everyone gathered to honor her son and to acknowledge the dedication and sacrifices made by law enforcement. She was at a loss for words but deeply appreciative of the support and recognition shown towards her family and the law enforcement community.
Jarrott’s fiancee, Alicia Jarrott, expressed her appreciation for the support provided by the fundraiser. She emphasized that it not only benefits their children but also serves as a reminder of their father’s heroic actions. Alicia stated, “It’s really good because it gives not only his daughter, his two other sons, and his oldest daughter, it also lets them know that they’re still also going to be supported throughout the rest of their lives to know that their dad was a hero.” The fundraiser’s impact goes beyond financial assistance, as it symbolizes the lasting legacy of a brave and selfless individual.
Las Cruces Police Officer Adrian De La Garza endured a gunshot wound from the suspect on that fateful day and played a crucial role in apprehending him. Despite never having the opportunity to meet Jarrott, their lives have become intertwined ever since. With the assistance of local agencies, De La Garza took the initiative to organize the memorial run.
De La Garza expressed his gratitude to the crowd assembled before the run, acknowledging that the event had a profound impact on his life as well as that of his children. He remarked, “Something that changed my life, changed my kids’ life. I’m just happy to see everybody here today, so thank you.”
“It’s truly heartwarming to witness the unwavering support we received today, as everyone gathered here on a Sunday. I truly appreciate the fact that they took time out from their family day to be here with us and share this incredible experience,” expressed De la Garza.
In honor of Jarrott, De La Garza made the decision to arrange a run for the community to participate in together. He expressed his intention to continue organizing the annual memorial run and expressed his hope for its continued growth.
