Ex-Indiana Sheriff Faces Charges of Tax Evasion and Theft in Court

Jamiesfeast – A corruption probe by the Indiana State Police has led to additional charges against a former southern Indiana sheriff and prominent figure in the state Republican Party.

Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel and his wife Misty are scheduled to appear in court on Monday afternoon. They will be facing a total of 10 charges, including theft and tax evasion.

In addition to the 15 counts Noel already faces for theft, corruption, ghost employment, official misconduct, and obstruction of justice, he now faces these additional charges.

According to state police investigators, Noel has been accused of using county employees to perform work on his personal property. Additionally, it is alleged that he offered to sell these employees public vehicles at discounted prices.

He is suspected of using a credit card that belonged to one of the fire and EMS departments he managed to incur $5 million in personal expenses.

He owned and accumulated over 100 vehicles, which consisted of public safety vehicles, a 1930 Ford Roadster, pick-up trucks, luxury cars, and two classic 1970s Plymouth Road Runners. Notably, one of the Road Runners had a Noel campaign sticker displayed on its rear window.

In ISP’s parking lot, there was another black-and-white Plymouth classic police car. On the passenger-side door, there was a “Noel for Sheriff” logo, accompanied by the words “To protect and serve.”

Around 36 of these vehicles are currently secured behind a fence, adorned with car covers and crime scene tape. These cars are being held as evidence at the ISP District 52 Post, located on the east side of Indianapolis.

Noel has been found to have purchased multiple military surplus items. He is also accused of equipping a sheriff’s air fleet and allegedly using taxpayer-subsidized fuel for his private airplane.

Noel denies the charges brought against him by the special prosecutor.
