Jamiesfeast – A caretaker, who is suspected of murdering a young girl, now faces allegations of a potential romantic relationship with a jailer. Alysia Adams, 31, has been relocated from the Caddo County Jail while a state agency conducts an investigation, as reported by deputies from Oklahoma City Fox affiliate KOKH.
The Caddo County Sheriff’s Office has reached out to the OSBI to look into alleged misconduct at the Caddo County Jail. An Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson stated that the investigation is currently ongoing and no names involved in the incident have been confirmed yet.
On the first charge, Adams was accused of neglecting two children. In December 2023, the charge was changed to first-degree murder. Her story that her 37-year-old co-defendant husband, Ivon Adams, beat Athena Brownfield to death on Christmas Day 2022 did not hold up in an autopsy, according to the police.
In fact, court papers obtained by Oklahoma City NBC station KFOR show that the county medical examiner’s office found “no fatal trauma found” on Athena’s body and that the child had not broken any bones.
At the autopsy, it was said that the little girl died of “acute pneumonia complicating malnutrition.” According to the new charges, Alysia Adams is supposed to have “put Athena Brownfield in a closet and denied the child proper nutrition.”
Lawyers for Alysia Adams charged her with murder and one count of obstructing an officer because they say she lied to police when she said her husband had killed Athena by beating her. With the way she treated Athena’s bigger sister, she is also charged with one count of child neglect. Postal workers found Athena’s then-5-year-old sister walking outside the Adams’ house on January 10, 2023. This led to the start of the investigation into the missing girl.
Ivon Adams was charged with second-degree murder instead of first-degree murder yesterday. Taking someone’s body without permission and neglecting a child are also charges against him.
Jasmin Adina Kay Brownfield, Athena’s mother, was taken into custody in May 2023 on charges of leaving her daughters in the care of Alysia and Ivon Adams.
