Manslaughter Case Against Michigan School Shooter’s Mother To Be Presented To Jury

Jamiesfeast – A judge will provide instructions to a Michigan jury, which will commence deliberations on Monday in a unique trial involving a school shooter’s mother. If found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the tragic deaths of four students in 2021, she could face imprisonment.

Prosecutors argue that Jennifer Crumbley demonstrated extreme negligence by neglecting to inform the authorities at Oxford High School that her family possessed firearms, including a 9mm handgun that her son, Ethan Crumbley, had used at a shooting range just days before.

The school expressed concern over a disturbing drawing of a gun, bullet, and injured man, accompanied by distressing phrases, on a math assignment. However, Ethan remained at school on November 30, 2021, after a brief 12-minute meeting with Jennifer and James Crumbley, who decided not to take him home.

During the closing arguments on Friday in suburban Detroit, prosecutor Karen McDonald revealed that the defendant had actually drawn a picture depicting his intentions. The picture, according to McDonald, clearly featured the words, “Help me.”

According to McDonald, Jennifer Crumbley was aware that the gun depicted in the drawing was exactly the same as the new one they had at home.

The prosecutor emphasized that she was fully aware that the gun was not stored correctly. Furthermore, she knew that he was skilled in handling firearms and had easy access to ammunition.

According to the prosecutor, if Jennifer Crumbley had taken even the smallest steps, the lives of Hana St. Juliana, Tate Myre, Justin Shilling, and Madisyn Baldwin could have been saved.

According to defense attorney Shannon Smith, if a conviction were to occur, it would greatly impact parents who are unaware of their children’s unlawful actions. Smith argued that the tragic incident was not something that could have been predicted in advance.

According to Smith, the prosecution made a hasty charging decision in this case. He believes that the decision was driven by political motives and a desire for media attention. Smith criticizes the prosecution for prioritizing these factors over a thorough and fair investigation.

According to her, the case does not provide justice for the victims or their families. She emphasized that it cannot bring back any lives lost.

Jennifer Crumbley, aged 45, and James Crumbley, aged 47, have become the first parents in the United States to be charged in connection with their child’s involvement in a mass school shooting. Their child is set to stand trial in March.

The Crumbleys have been imprisoned for over two years, unable to secure their release on a $500,000 bond, as they await trial. Involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

Ethan Crumbley, who is currently 17 years old, has entered a guilty plea for murder and terrorism charges. As a result, he is now serving a life sentence.

The Crumbleys are facing accusations of neglecting their son’s mental health needs, in addition to their knowledge of the gun. In a journal discovered by the police in his backpack, their son expressed his frustration over their failure to heed his pleas for assistance.
