Jamiesfeast – An 18-year-old has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for fatally shooting a man on the east side of Indianapolis two years ago.
Tiyuan Johnson has been sentenced to 45 years in prison by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for his involvement in the shooting death of 27-year-old Kevan Akbar on October 29, 2022.
Last week, Johnson admitted his guilt in Marion Superior Court 28 for the crimes of murder and possession of a machine gun. These charges are classified as level 5 felonies.
News reports say that police from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department went to a gas station in the 6000 block of N. Arlington Ave. and E. 30th St. because someone had been shot there. When the police arrived, they found Akbar inside a car with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was taken to a nearby hospital in very bad shape and later died there.
As part of their investigation, police got security video from the gas station that helped them figure out that Johnson was a possible suspect.
The video apparently showed a woman getting out of a car that was parked next to the car that Akbar was found in the night he died, according to the MCPO. People saw the woman get out of Akbar’s car, go into the gas station, and then come back to get in his car.
The MCPO said Johnson and another unidentified man could be seen venturing inside the gas station multiple times and speaking with Akbar.
The two guys are said to have left while Akbar and the woman continued to talk. Johnson and the other man returned to Akbarโs vehicle a few minutes later, and Johnson reportedly fired several shots through the vehicleโs windshield, striking Akbar, the MCPO said.
The MCPO said that detectives also found Johnson’s DNA on a cell phone that they found at the crime scene. Johnson was also featured in a photo on the phoneโs home screen.
