Jamiesfeast – The family is raising concerns about the lack of immediate communication from Galveston County jailers regarding their loved one’s sudden hospitalization and subsequent death.
Brittany Nicole Anderson, a 32-year-old woman, was taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch on Thursday morning, as confirmed by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, the mother of five children was discovered alone and unresponsive in a padded cell by jail and medical staff. Immediate action was taken as staff administered CPR and managed to restore her pulse before promptly transporting her to the hospital.
According to the GCSO, Anderson, who had been incarcerated for nine days due to a probation violation, was involved in a confrontation with jail staff in a secure area the previous day.
Sheriff Henry Trochesset was unsure about the exact date of her medical examination, but he believed it was scheduled for Wednesday.
Anderson’s family, devastated by the loss of their loved one, reached out to Eyewitness News just hours after the tragic incident. They are left not only grieving but also seeking answers to the many questions surrounding this heartbreaking event.
The family expressed their confusion as to why they were not informed about Anderson’s condition when she arrived at the hospital, considering she had a pulse at that time. Unfortunately, UTMB chose to notify her mother when it was already too late.
“We could have been there for that if you had just reached out as you were supposed to,” expressed Jarnae McGaskey, cousin of Anderson. “You took that away from us. We demand answers for that. Her children deserve answers as well.”
For the family, the most important thing is that, despite her troubled past, which involved a child abandonment charge two years ago, the jail was meant to be a safe place for her.
“The background of the victim is inconsequential. What truly matters is that they were under the care of trained professionals who should have been capable of handling such situations when these individuals sought the assistance they required,” expressed Danny Thompson, another cousin of the victim. The relatives strongly believe that there is more to the story.
“She remained a sister. She remained a mother. She remained a daughter. She remained a cousin. She remained a friend. Her significance persisted, regardless of her struggles with drugs, illness, or any other challenges she faced,” emphasized Jarnae McGaskey, Anderson’s cousin.
Meanwhile, the family of Anderson is seeking video footage from inside the jail.
